I’m Stephen Cardwell. I worked over 30 years as a print and web designer who traded deadlines for daydreams and now spend my time crafting whimsical, heartfelt fantasy illustrations. My work blends storytelling, nostalgia, and a touch of magic, often inspired by mythology, woodland folklore, and the wonder of everyday life.
My work usually starts with a flash of a scene, a moment from a story that doesn’t exist yet. As I bring the image to life, the rest of the tale begins to unfold, revealing who the characters are, where they’ve come from, and why they’ve found themselves in that moment.
